David Hong, MD

Dr. Hong is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology who has expertise in the treatment of all solid cancers.  He has extensive experience with advanced technical approaches and a well-developed interest in patient safety and quality improvement.  Dr. Hong has worked in a variety of practice settings throughout his career and speaks Korean and Spanish fluently.  He serves as Director of Quality in the Department of Radiation Oncology at UCI. Dr. Hong is a member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) State Captain Initiative, Practice Accreditation Committee, and Payer Relations Subcommittee, as well as the Big Data Subcommittee of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM). Dr. Hong has expertise in clinical informatics and is a collaborator in ASTRO/AAPM’s efforts to develop what is known as the Operational Ontology for Radiation Oncology.  A graduate of Troy High School in Fullerton, he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of California, Riverside before attending the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). During medical school he was awarded a Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship for work in the personalization of therapy for lung cancer patients performed at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center under mentorship of Dr. John Minna. He completed a transitional year internship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and radiation oncology residency at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.
